BB-Maze

A table-top mixed-reality game that guides BB-8 through a maze using head movement, gaze and pathfinding AI.

BB-Maze

Introduction

BB-8 needs to get out of the maze before Kylo Ren catches up. But first he must collect bridge pieces before heading to the edge of the maze to escape. Players control BB-8 through head movement and the gaze pointer of the HoloLens, while collectibles and power-ups are gathered via the HoloLens tap gesture.

Players are encouraged to walk around the table to get a better view of the maze and finer control. The enemy, Kylo Ren, is a simple AI that uses the A* pathfinding algorithm to chase the player.

My contribution

The theme of the project was “A is afraid of B.” As a programmer, my responsibilities included:

  • Iterating on the HoloLens to discover intuitive ways to control BB-8.
  • Writing code to integrate power-ups and collectibles.
  • Collaborating with artists to make visual improvements for the HoloLens.
  • Integrating sound and art into the experience.
